- L-arginine is a precursor of nitric oxide, a signaling molecule that triggers vasodilation reactions, as the so-called endothelial antispasmodic factor. Arginine is a partially exogenous amino acid, i.e. it is not sufficiently synthesized in the body and must be supplied with food.
